October, in Cabo, marks the beginning of the tourist season and one of our favorite times of the year. Mid-October is the end of the hot and humid rainy season in Los Cabos. Keep in mind it only rains approximately 6 to 8 days a year, so most of the time Cabo is sunny and beautiful year round. The average high temperature in October is 85 to 90 degrees with lows in the 70s, and ocean temperatures averaging around 75 degrees. Plus the desert is still green and beautiful and the flowers are in full bloom.
There is always something to do in Cabo, but there are several special events in October. One of the biggest is The Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament. This year it will run from October 22nd to October 26th. The tournament was started in 1981 by Bob Bisbee and there are huge cash prizes for the winners. In 2006 the cash payout was $4,165,960 dollars which still remains the largest cash payout in sport fishing history. There are several rules that the fisherman have to abide by. For example, the minimum weight for a qualifying fish is 300 lbs and the boats have to bring the fish back to the marina by no later than 9:00pm. With this much money on the line, there is always some kind of drama. Last year the fisherman with the largest fish arrived 10 minutes late for the 9:00pm weigh-in deadline, and there were other rumors of fish being stuffed with weights, but overall it's a lot of fun. If you are here during this time, the fish are weighed at the marina in front of the Puerta Paraiso Mall. It's a party atmosphere and booths are set up with food and tequila tasting among other things.
One of the less publicized, but very memorable, events this time of year is the Sea Turtle Release. Sea turtles come back to the same beach where they were hatched to lay their eggs. The migration happens in July and August and the baby sea turtles hatch between September and November. This means that if you are looking to be part of a Sea Turtle Release, October is the perfect time. Many tour companies in Cabo host sea turtle releases where visitors and locals can help release the baby sea turtles to the wild. We highly recommend this....it's an experience you won't forget!
Last year the real estate market in Los Cabos was booming and we had our best year since 2008. If this month is an indication of things to come, then we expect this season to exceed last year. If you are considering purchasing in our area, there is no time like the present.
